Faculty of Arts, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), on Tuesday paid their last respect to Late Prof. Innocent Uzoma Nwadike who served as a lecturer in Department of Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages.

The Faculty paid their tribute during a brief stop-over at the University community in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 24th 2023 at the faculty arena.
Lecturers and students were present at the occasion as many classes did not hold in those hours.

Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Paul Obi-Ani during an interview with him, commended the Late Professor for passionately propagating the Igbo language while alive. He cited how he had many publications during his lifetime that aided the spread of the language knowledge.
The Dean described him as “Ohaneze”– a term used to describe those at helm of Igbo affairs. He said, “Late Prof. Nwadike should be celebrated. He helped advance our mother tongue far more than anybody I have known.”

Consequently, he advised that Ohaneze should celebrate him. “He is well respected within the Faculty and beyond. He is disciplined and a good leader who was consequently accorded one time President of the Senior Staff Club.”
Prof. Obi-Ani also revealed that the deceased would have been given a Faculty Board arrangement if not that he retired before passing on.
He explained that a Faculty Board involves the gathering of lecturers and other friends within the University community to perform a ceremony, to officially declare him as late. He stated that his life achievements and contributions would be read in his citation.
