The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has defended ‘Obidients’ against the social media attack about ‘claimed’ supporters who insulted the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Earlier, in a thanksgiving service at RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Meta, during the weekend, Pastor Adeboye urged Nigerians and Christians to pray for the incoming government that God will support it and give it the grace to do the right thing.

The comment made by the revered pastor, seemed as an approval of the President Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu which many Obidients didn’t find acceptable.

However, Obi supporters reportedly, attacked the pastor ceaselessly on social media which made Obi to come defend ‘obidients’.

Mr. Obi however, took to his Twitter page on Wednesday, May, 10 2023 to address the situation. According to him, those who attacked the pastor were not true Obidients as what they did were against what the Obidient movement stands for.

He said, “The use of subterfuge by people masquerading as Obidients to abuse and insult eminent personalities like Most Reverend Pastor Enoch Adeboye or anyone else is most unacceptable. Obidients are by and large, law-abiding citizens.

He went further to say, “While differences of opinion are normal, calculated efforts to create ethnic or religious chasm all in the name of politics should not in any way be tolerated. As a person, I eschew name-calling, insults, and abuses, likewise most of my supporters.

“The suggestion that some in the fringes engage in such conduct casually overlooks the fact that the political opposition deploys such methods to gain undue advantage and create confusion and bad blood.”

Also, Diran Onifade, the spokesman of the Obi-Datti Media office in a statement addressing the issue said, Obi respected Pastor Adeboye and would never be involved in throwing him on social media.

Moreso, he appealed to Nigerians to ignore the antics of election triggers who believe that “demarketing Peter Obi is a sure means of Keeping a stolen mandate.”
